Create backup of Galaxy Watch 5
I got an alert on my phone that my watch hasn’t been backed up in a while. To check:
- Open Galaxy wearables app
- Watch Settings
- Accounts and backup
Sure enough, it said my last backup was about 2 months ago. Now comes the kicker: No way to manually do one or any message why it didn’t do a backup. I had to google around and found a solution. Not a good one. Thanks Samsung. I had thought about getting a Samsung phone next but if that is how your software works, no thank you.
Here is how you can force backup. First, and this is very important, make sure you have a PIN set on your watch. When you take it off, it will lock itself until you put the pin in. That’s how you know for sure that you have one set.
On the Account and backup page, there is a Reset. Select it and confirm that you want to reset. Don’t worry, we won’t actually reset the watch. The first thing it will do is, it will create a backup. Once that is done it will ask you to enter the PIN on the watch. That’s why it is important to have a PIN set. I read that someone else did this without it being set and it reset his watch. Because of the PIN you can now back out of the reset.
Come on Samsung. Give us an actual manual backup!
