It has been a while since I actually worked on the website. I decided to update the ’terminal’ theme to the latest version and of course, a bunch of tings broke. Mainly because I changed files within the theme folder instead of overwriting the files. I spent a good amount of time today to figure out what changes I had made and then move them to the correct folders outside of the theme folder.

Every time I have to do any kind of filing, I just get frustrated. I never liked doing paper work. Let’s face it, nobody does unless you are a psycho. I am kidding of course. Anyways. Back to my rant.
First of all, why is there Letter an Legal? Have one format. I either have a folder that can take Legal or one that can take Letter. Either way, one doesn’t fit the other.

Most probably have heard by now that the Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS got announced. Looking at the reactions, I can see two fractions:
This is the year of the Linux Desktop It’s not that big of a deal. It’s easy to install Linux. I wanted to address both of those. Let’s start with:
This is the year of the Linux Desktop I doubt it. Mostly because SteamOS isn’t a desktop OS, but a console OS.

I don’t transfer because I use this to also get rid of apps that I actually do not use.
Every time I get a new Android phone, I disable all the heads up notifications. I find them very irritating. You can disable them per app notification but that takes forever. I don’t want any. Unfortunately, there is no way in the settings to disable them system wide. At least not that I know of.
Install adb First step is to install adb on your computer. Yes, you need a computer to do this.

About a month after getting the Freestyle 2, I started to have issues. At first I only noticed it with the arrow keys. Occasionally an additional key press was registered. I noticed it especially with the back arrow. Occasionally it would also type a slash. Then came the really bad day. Every time I pressed zero, it also send a HOME. I tried various things. Unplugging. Different USB port. Nothing helped.

To check:
Open Galaxy wearables app Watch Settings Accounts and backup Sure enough, it said my last backup was about 2 months ago. Now comes the kicker: No way to manually do one or any message why it didn’t do a backup. I had to google around and found a solution. Not a good one.

We couldn’t get a reservation to Pender Island. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it on because there were just too many waiting. We got onto the next one to Swartz Bay. There, we had to leave the ferry termainal, turn around and then drive back in.

I wanted to go with Debian, but because the hardware is very new, I had to go with something more … current. My old laptop ran Manjaro, and I was quite happy with it. However, I wanted to go with a base distribution. Nothing that uses another distribution as it’s base.

I got a new Alienware M16 laptop. One thing that I had done on my old laptop was, that I had it automatically lower the CPU frequency when I closed the lid on my laptop. I don’t want it to go to sleep but also don’t need it to run full blast. Yes, the CPU governor should lower the frequency on it’s own, but this way I just force it to the lowest frequency.

Starting with NextCloud I finally got myself a MiniPC. Installed Linux on it and then NextCloud AIO. It was a bit of a hassle to get the port forwarding as I wanted it. AIO is also a bit finicky if you give it some incorrect information. It doesn’t complain until you try to get everything setup and it simply doesn’t work.
After the first few hurdles, I started tinkering with my shiny new NextCloud instance.

I also like that it is just plain files on my side. Makes it so much easier to move things around, find things and edit them. I don’t have to deal with a database or whatever limited things the software offers me.

Warning: Changing the executable could get you banned in online games.
There are many reasons why you would want to change the executable that is used to launch a game under Steam. You might want to use a different launcher. Specifically for MODs you might want to launch an alternate launcher or you need a pateched executable.
Warning: Be carefuly with any executable you download. If you do not trust the source, don’t use it.

I’ve been watching a few of those videos that talk about vim vs other editors for programming. I thought I throw my two cents in and explain, why I use vim. Not just for editing configuration files, but also programming and pretty much anything else. I even write this post with vim. I say that right away, I don’t think that the other ones are bad, they are just not right for me.

I got my steam deck in July and have been playing a lot with it. Well, maybe not a lot compared to others, but certainly a lot from my point of view. I also bought more games in the last six months than every before in my life. I guess that is a win for valve and the steam deck.
Looking back, the steam deck certainly isn’t a perfect device. It would be nice if the screen was slightly bigger.

What is this about? I decided to switch from WordPress to Hugo. I always wanted to go back to a more static web page. For many reasons. The biggest one is that I don’t want to constantly update the software on my blog. I don’t want to be easily exposed to security bugs. Now that I switched I thought I should probably document somewhere, what I did and what kind of customizations I did for myself.
